Sports

Joined a Fodbold (socca) team with some of ma danish friends here. Played our first game today. They brought it up a month or so ago and I was super hesitant. Being the worst player on any team is sort of a nightmare, no? I told them I didn't play much and hadn't even worn a cleat since I dressed up as Mia Hamm for Halloween in 4th grade, just as a warning. They said they too just played for fun. I don't think they understood that by "don't play much", I meant never. Anyways it was a beautiful day here today and the game was at 6. Of course I was in. Still a little skeptical that the Danish, or maybe just Euro definition of novice would be far different from the Murican...I suited up. Boots two sizes too small, shin-pads possibly older than the game of soccer and shins themselves, and a helmet like the one pictured above for good measure. We biked out to this super awesome park, Faelledparken, which actually means skatepark, any everybody started warming up. Some light stretching, calis-ten-ichs, burpees. The whole schpeel. 15 of us, some good friends, some peeps I didnt know. Anyways, I played attack. So I attacked all game. To my surprise I wasn't so terrible, and they weren't so good or serious. We exchanged ball tricks and laughed at the 4 and 5 year old players running around on the random across the way. No Sunny D or Orange Slices, but plenty of buttslaps at highfives though...But yeah. I think fodbold is the most physically involved sport. I'm so universally sore I can't even tell which muscles hurt. Felt good though. I think I like doing the sport. 90 minutes, straight sprints, legs like cannons, cartwheels between, I'm tired.
